On January 13, the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that American Honda had added more vehicles to the Takata airbag recall.
This recall is due to a defect in the Takata airbags’ inflators. There is a risk that the gas forming agent could degrade over time due to repeated changes in temperature or humidity due to insufficient moisture absorption prevention in the gas forming agent. As a result, the airbag inflator could break during deployment which could cause injury.
The recall applies to 977,708 vehicles sold in the United States. It applies to 2008-2012 Accord models, 2009-2012 Fit models, 2007-2011 CR-V models, 2006-2011 Civic models and others.
American Honda is contacting affected customers and passenger-side airbags are being replaced at dealerships.
