On November 24, Mitsubishi issued a recall with the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport over a Takata airbag inflator defect.
The recall applies to 100,480 Delica, Pajero, Lancer, AI and i-MiEV models built from August 23, 2006, to December 28, 2011.
In the passenger side airbags, the appropriate moisture absorption prevention measures may have not been taken in the gas forming agent. As a result, when there are repeated changes in temperature or humidity, there is a risk of the gas forming agent degrading. This could cause the inflator to rupture upon deployment.
For all models, airbag inflators and modules are being replaced with the appropriate parts. Currently, some time is required to prepare the new parts. Where parts are not available, customers are advised to deactivate the passenger side airbags and, where appropriate, deactivate the passenger side sun visor airbags.
