Mazda North America has issued a recall in the US for its flagship model, the Mazda3 (Axela in Japan).
The recall is over a defect in the fuel tank. According to the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there is a problem in the welding of the fuel tank’s circulation pipe which occurred during the construction phase which could cause fuel to leak.
The recall applies to 3,846 2016 Mazda3’s sold in the United States.
Mazda North America is contacting the owners of the effected vehicles. It is inspecting and exchanging fuel tanks at dealerships.
