Honda announced that they plan to release the new Clarity Fuel Cell in the USA. It was announced at the 2016 Washington Auto Show on January 21, 2016.
They will launch the sale of the Clarity Fuel Cell in USA by 2016. This model was sold through leasing in its first year, and after acquiring the application conditions of this product in the market, as well as various opinions and suggestions from the customers, Honda will conduct a general release of this model.
Its price in the USA is 60,000 USD. Its monthly leasing fee will be 500 dollars and below, and Honda will start selling this model in California.
The Clarity Fuel Cell has both the high dimension of user-friendliness of a gasoline version and fascinating characteristics as an FCV. This high class can be the benchmark for FCVs in the near future. Its fuel cell stack is smaller by 33% compared to the existing model, but it has better output by approximately 60%. Its fuel cell powertrain was made smaller, up to the size of a V6 engine, and it is the first time that it has been equipped in the hood of three sedans. Because of that, five adult passengers can sit freely in the space provided by this full cabin.
Moreover, due to its highly efficient powertrain and reduction of running energy, it is the top in the FCV class with an overall traveling distance of over 300 miles (reference value). Its one-time hydrogen charging time is around three to five minutes, and it is very user friendly, just like the gasoline version.
Furthermore, as for the platform of the Clarity Fuel Cell, Honda also plans to apply it to plugin hybrid vehicles (PHV), which will be released in the USA by 2018.
