Honda to discontinue production of their Civic Hybrid in the US

The current Honda Civic Hybrid available in the US market will be the last model, as its production will be ceased.

This was announced through a press release in mid-June by American Honda’s Executive Vice President, John Mendel. He stated, “The Civic Hybrid will be discontinued after its 2015 model and a hybrid version will not be available for the new Civic.”

What’s the reason behind this? According to Mr. Mendel, Honda is now able to enhance its fuel-efficiency through their existing engine technology.

On the other hand, Honda will continue their R&D for its hybrid technology for future models. Mr. Mendel said, “Two-motor hybrid systems will be even more valued in the future. We’ll continue to develop hybrids to meet the needs and expectations of our customers.”

In 2014, Honda sold 5,070 units of the Civic Hybrid in the US. This was a 34.3% decline from the previous year.
