The current Honda Civic Hybrid available in the US market will be the last model, as its production will be ceased.
This was announced through a press release in mid-June by American Honda’s Executive Vice President, John Mendel. He stated, “The Civic Hybrid will be discontinued after its 2015 model and a hybrid version will not be available for the new Civic.â€
What’s the reason behind this? According to Mr. Mendel, Honda is now able to enhance its fuel-efficiency through their existing engine technology.
On the other hand, Honda will continue their R&D for its hybrid technology for future models. Mr. Mendel said, “Two-motor hybrid systems will be even more valued in the future. We’ll continue to develop hybrids to meet the needs and expectations of our customers.â€
In 2014, Honda sold 5,070 units of the Civic Hybrid in the US. This was a 34.3% decline from the previous year.
