On March 20, Nissan USA announced that total US sales of its Leaf EV have reached 75,000 units.
Nissan released the Leaf in the US in December, 2010. It was the first mass market EV released by a major auto maker. It has reached 75,000 units sold in just four-and-a-half years since its release.
Since its 2013 model, the Leaf has been produced locally in the United States. At the same time, its price was dropped, which led to higher sales. The commemorative 75,000th Leaf was sold to Rishabh Mehandru of Portland, Oregon.
Mehandru says it is his second Leaf. He says he uses his Leaf for the 50km commute each day to his job as a high-level engineer at the company Intel.
