In recent news, Maruti Suzuki India triumphed in the Indian automotive market through the launch of its latest flagship models. What is more fascinating is the fact that out of the top 10 selling brands, the automaker stands out proudly in the list with 6 of its own models.
Maruti Suzuki India’s current position as per February 2017 listings make it generate a 50% market share in the domestic passenger vehicle segment.
As per the newest data revealed by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Maruti Suzuki Alto took the number one spot for the best-selling car in February 2017 with 19,524 units sold. The number is, however, less compared to February 2016 numbers which were 21,286.
The second spot on the list was also taken by their compact sedan Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire selling 14,039 units in February 2017. In addition, the company reportedly took the third spot with the compact car Wagon R selling around 13,555 units in Feb 2017. The same car took the third position last year as well selling 14,209 units.
Hyundai’s Grand i10, which took the fourth spot, sold around 12,862 units in Feb 2017. Maruti Suzuki India continued with its hatchback Swift on the fifth position with 12,328 units in Feb 2017. Swift came out at the second spot last year with 15,475 sold units.
The sixth spot on the top 10 best-selling cars of 2017 has been acquired by Hyundai’s premium hatchback Elite i20 with 10,414 confirmed units. Once again, Maruti Suzuki India entered the list taking the seventh spot for its compact SUV Vitara Brezza with 10,046 units sold.
With the eighth spot grabbed by Renault’s Kwid (selling 9,648 units in Feb 2017) and ninth spot taken by Hyundai’s Creta (selling 9,002 units), the top 10 list ended, yet again, with Maruti Suzuki India’s hatchback Celerio selling 8,315 units.
With this, it is seemingly confirmed that Maruti Suzuki India has ended up gaining half the share in the Indian automotive market.
