Toyota’s 58 years of Australian production comes to a close

On January 31, Toyota Australia announced that it will stop production in Australia as of October 3.

Toyota decided to stop production of cars and engines at Toyota Motor Corporation Australia (TMCA), its Australia subsidiary, in 2014.

TMCA was established in 1959 in Melbourne. It produced models such as the Camry, Camry Hybrid and Aurion.

TMCA will cease production of the Aurion first in August. Then, it will finish production of the Camry Hybrid in September. Finally, it plans to cease production of the Camry gasoline model on October 3.

Toyota Australia President David Buttner says, “We remain extremely proud of our rich manufacturing history which spans over 50 years. Our employees are committed to producing vehicles of the highest quality as we work towards our goal of ‘last car = best global car’.”
