On December 19, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), Toyota’s subsidiary for the production and sales of automobiles in India, announced that sales of the Fortuner have reached the 100,000-unit mark.
The first-generation Fortuner was introduced to the Indian market in 2009. Developed as one of their Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicles (IMV) for emerging countries, the Fortuner has been a bestseller in its segment ever since.
The second-generation model was released in November 2016. It was launched as the SUV version of the all-new Hilux. The exterior measures at 4,795 x 1,855 x 1,835mm (length x width x height) and the wheelbase is 2,745mm long. For the new seven-seat Fortuner, Toyota aimed for more stylishness than its previous model.
The powertrain lineup features a 2.8-liter diesel engine and a 2.7-liter gasoline unit. The diesel engine comes available in either 2WD or 4WD while a 2WD system is offered for the gasoline engine.
In regards to the recent milestone-setting achievement, TKM’s Director and Senior VP (Sales and Marketing) N Raja said, “Reaching 100-million units in sales for the highly competitive premium SUV segment is a tremendous achievement.â€
