On November 2, Toyota’s India manufacturing and sales subsidiary Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported its October India sales figures. Total sales were 12,625 units including exports. This is 7.2% down from the previous year and marks the first decline in 7 months.
Of the 12,625 total, 11,651 units were sold domestically in India. This is down 6.1% from the previous year and marks the first decline in 6 months.
Sales were favorable for the Innova Crysta minivan, which was released in May. It was a popular model with a one-month wait for orders and there was also the introduction of a gasoline model.
TKM started exports of the made-in-India Etios series in April, 2012. A total of 974 Etios units were exported in October. This is down 18.7% and marks the 7th month of decline.
TKM Director and Senior VP, Sales and Marketing, N Raja said, “Demand from the market was strong these two months. The Innova Crysta was particularly popular.”
