At the end of October, Mitsubishi reported its September sales figures for China. Total sales were 6,058 units, which is up 6.4% year-on-year and marks the first year-on-year growth in 18 months.
In June, 2011, Mitsubishi established a joint venture company with China’s Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC). In October, 2012, it expanded to include joint companies, Mitsubishi Motor, Mitsubishi Corporation and Guangzhou Automobile Group, and established the new GAC Mitsubishi Motors in the city of Changsha, Hunan Province.
In China, SUVs are the flagship category. It has rolled out models like the ASX (RVR in Japan), Pajero, Pajero Sport (not release in Japan), and Outlander, and now offers a full lineup. The RVR played a major role in helping the company’s year-on-year sales rebound for the first time in 18 months.
Mitsubishi’s 2015 China new car sales were 89,619 units, which was down 1.2% from the previous year.
Its China sales for January to September, 2016, were 50,235 units.
