Toyota USA officially closes the Scion story 13 years after launch

On October 25, Toyota Motor Sales USA made the announcement on its official Facebook page that it was the last day of the Scion brand.

The Scion brand was launched in 2003 targeting young drivers in the United States. Its sales reached their peak in 2006, selling 173,034 in that year. Sales declined year after year after that, with only 56,167 units sold in 2015.

With sales declining, Toyota Motor Sales USA decided in February 2016 to discontinue the brand. The current lineup, starting with the 2017 model released in August, will be changed to the Toyota brand. Toyota will continue to service Scion cars for customers at its dealerships.

Total sales for the brand since its launch 13 years ago are approximately 1,200,000 units. On October 25, the Scion story officially came to an end.

Scion says, “We would like to thank you for sharing the ride with us.”
