On October 26, Mitsubishi president Osamu Masuko met with Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte, who is visiting Japan. He signed a memorandum with the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry regarding plans to support the country’s economy through expanding local production.
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC), the company’s manufacture and sales subsidiary in the Philippines, gained approval to join the country’s CARS Program under previous president Benigno Aquino in June, 2016, and the memorandum states that this inclusion will continue under the new regime. Mitsubishi is planning to start production of the Mirage and Mirage G4 Attrage from January 2017 under the CARS Program.
Masuko said, “We feel that receiving approval for MMPC to join the Philippine government’s CARS Program from the Department of Trade and Industry is very valuable to supporting the development of MMPC’s over 50 years of business in the Philippines. We hope to not only promote employment domestically in the Philippines, but also continue to serve as a partner in growing the country’s economy.”
