Toyota Motor Corporation announced its results of production, domestic sales and exports for August 2016. According to these results, global production grew 13.1% from the previous year to 729,852 units, resulting in its first surplus in two months.
Domestic production climbed 12.1% yoy to 240,355 units while production outside of Japan, due to increases in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa, grew 13.5% yoy to 489,497 units, as both recorded increases for the first time in two months.
Domestic sales went up for the sixth consecutive month, rising 15.6% yoy to 113,922 units. Sales for the Lexus brand fell 3.5% to 3,609 units, while mini cars declined 11.0% to 2,254 units. The market share, excluding mini cars, went up 4.6 percentage points to 50.0%, exceeding the 50% mark for the second month in a row.
Exports climbed for the second straight month, up 3.2% from a year ago to 128,886 units, as a result of increased shipments to Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
