In early September, Mitsubishiâ€™s Chinese corporation announced its August sales results for the Chinese market. According to these results, overall sales were 5,338 units, remaining flat from the previous year.
In June 2011, Mitsubishi formed a joint venture with the GAC Group in China. Then in October 2012, this joint venture was expanded to include Mitsubishi Corporation, resulting in the establishment of GAC Mitsubishi in Changsha, Hunan.
SUVs are highly popular in the Chinese market with Mitsubishi expanding its lineup with the introductions of the ASX (the RVR, in Japan), Pajero, Pajero Sport (not available in Japan), and the Outlander.
In 2015, Mitsubishi sold 89,619 units in China, a decline of 1.2% from the previous year.
So far in 2016 (January to August), Mitsubishi has recorded 44,177 units for the Chinese market, equivalent to a drop of approximately 30% year on year.
