Mazda and Sollers to establish engine production plant in Russia

On September 2, Mazda Motor Corporation and OJSC Sollers announced that Mazda Sollers Manufacturing Rus (MSMR), their joint venture located in Vladivostok in the Primorsky region of Russia’s Far Eastern Federal District, and the Russian government have agreed to and signed a memorandum for the establishment of an engine production plant at MSMR.

This MSMR engine plant is scheduled to produce 50,000 units annually with production targeted to commence sometime in 2018.

Moreover, the government of the Russian Federation is expected to provide assistance for the plant until 2023.

Since commencing operations back in October 2012, MSMR has produced over 100,000 Mazda vehicles, which include the currently assembled CX-5 and Atenza, to all of Russia.

Mazda said, “Going forward, we will utilize our exceptional automotive production capabilities and Soller’s strengths in the region, further develop our partnership and contribute to the automotive industry in Russia.”
