On August 4, Toyota released its new car sales figures for the first quarter of 2016 (April to June). Total group sales including the Daihatsu and Hino brand were 2,529,000 units. This is 1% up from the previous year.
Sales for its biggest market North America were 715,000 units. This is down 2% from the previous year. SUV sales are favorable because of low gas prices in the US. Passenger cars are facing a tough battle.
Sales in Asia outside of Japan were up 17% at 384,000 units. Domestic Japan sales were 511,000 units, which is up 8.7% from the previous year.
Europe saw significant 7.7% growth at 222,000 units. Middle East sales were 22.2% down at 130,000 units, Latin America sales were up 3% at 101,000 units, Oceania sales were up 3.2% at 64,000 units, and Africa sales were down 17.3% at 43,000 units.
Toyota’s 2015 global sales including Daihatsu and Hino were 10,094,000 units.
