On August 2, Honda released its global new car sales for the first quarter of 2016 (April to June). Total sales were 1,213,000 units. This is 5.8% up from the same period last year.
Sales in the company’s flagship market North America were 510,000 units. This is up 2.6% from the previous year. This is due to the influence of minor changes made to the flagship Civic, Ridgeline pickup truck and Pilot SUV.
The Asian market represented the 2nd largest-selling region with 453,000 units. This is 11.8% up from the previous year. According to Honda, there was significant growth in China, especially in SUVs.
On the other hand, sales in Japan reached only 146,000 units. This is down 0.7% from the previous year. European sales were 45,000 units, which is up a significant 40.6% from the previous year. This was helped by the Vezel and the new Fit.
Honda’s global sales for 2015 were 4,743,000 units.
