On July 27, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced its results for the first quarter (April to June) of the 2016 fiscal year. According to these results, global sales declined 15.7% from 262,000 units in the previous year, to 221,000 units.
Domestic sales accounted for 10,000 units, a significant 44.5% drop from the 18,000 units recorded a year ago. This was largely due to the impact of the fuel economy scandal.
As for overseas sales, Asian markets recorded 71,000 units, a 9% decline year on year. In particular, sales in China suffered substantially, dropping 31.8% yoy to 15,000 units.
Meanwhile, North American countries sold 37,000 units, achieving solid results with a 5.7% increase yoy. The US market accounted for 27,000 units, which grew 3.8% from the previous year led by the popularity of their SUVs.
Mitsubishi’s global sales for the 2015 fiscal year were 1,048,000 units, a 3.9% fall from the previous year.
