Mitsubishi will perform recalls for its high-performance vehicle, the Lancer Evolution, along with several other models in the US.
This news was announced by the US NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Mitsubishi’s US branch, Mitsubishi Motors North America, notified the NHTSA that it would be recalling a number of different vehicles including the Lancer Evolution.
These recalls are due to issues with the vehicles’ suspensions. According to the NHTSA, the front lower control arm could potentially drop out due to corrosion of the cross-member.
Models subject to recall are Lancer Evolutions from 2003 – 2006, Lancers from 2002 – 2007, and the 2004 Lancer Wagon, with vehicles sold in regions of the country where snow-melting agents are scattered on the ground in winter being the primary targets for the recall.
Mitsubishi Motors North America has notified owners of vehicles subject to recall. According to the level of corrosion present, parts will be replaced at Mitsubishi dealerships for owners of these vehicles.
