In early July, China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China announced that Mazda has issued a recall for the Mazda 2 Sedan (Demio in Japan) in China.
The recall is due to a defect in the Takata airbags. In the event of an accident where the driver’s side airbag is deployed, there is a risk of rupture and injury due to metal splinters.
The recall applies to a total of 74,310 cars built from late July 2007 to mid-June 2015.
Mazda’s China subsidiary Changan Ford Mazda, a joint venture with Chang’an Automobile Group, is carrying out the recall.
