In the midst of the ever-expanding worldwide recall of Takata airbags over a default in the inflator that could cause rupture, there has been a new reported death in Malaysia.
This was reported on June 27 by Honda Malaysia. It said, “We have confirmed the death of one driver in an accident in Malaysia on June 26 where a Takata airbag was deployed.”
According to Honda Malaysia, there have been two incidents this year where there was an accident involving its City where there was an abnormal rupture in the Takata airbag which led to the death of the driver. They occurred on April 16 and May 1 respectively.
This new accident involved a 2005 City. Although it was a car affected by the recall, recall efforts were not yet underway at the time of the accident.
Honda Malaysia says that an investigation is currently underway but that “no official cause of death has been yet determined.”
