Fuji Heavy Industries held their regular general meeting of shareholders at a hotel in Tokyo on June 28th, and there a “one section charter amendment” was decided upon to change the name of the company. Starting from April 1st, 2017, the company will from then on be known as SUBARU CORPORATION.
It was decided to change the company statute, which establishes the “firm’s name.” The firm’s president, Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, stated, “the firm name and the brand name will be unified, so that will speed up the efforts to improve the brand even further.” Aiming for this, the bold move of a name change was made. In addition, 2017 brings another critical juncture: the 100th year anniversary of the establishment of the organization which preceded Fuji Heavy Industries, Nakajima Aircraft Company (it was originally established as an aviation research institute).
The name of the company was changed to Fuji Heavy Industries in 1953 since then. As for the “SUBARU” brand name, since the announcement of the light motor vehicle “SUBARU 360” by the automobile division in 1958, Fuji Heavy Industries has been using it.
