On June 7, Mitsubishi published its China new car sales figures for May. Total sales were 5,179 units. This is 30.8% down year-on-year and represents the 14th month of decline.
In June 2011, Mitsubishi set up a joint venture with China’s GAC group. In October 2012 it was expanded to include Mitsubishi Motors, Mitsubishi Corporation and Guangzhou Automobile Motor Group, and established GAC Mitsubishi Motors in Changsha, in China’s Hunan province.
SUVs currently are the company’s biggest sellers. It offers a full SUV lineup that includes the ASX (RVR in Japan), Pajero, Pajero Sport (unreleased in Japan) and Outlander.
Mitsubishi’s 2015 China new car sales were 89,619 units. This is 1.2% down from the previous year.
Mitsubishi China sales for January to May 2016 were 28,928 units. This is down 32.4% from the previous year.
