Toyota conducts recall on additional 490,000 units for defective airbags

Toyota Motor Corporation will conduct a recall for an additional 490,000 vehicles in China and Europe for its defective Takata airbag inflator.

The Chinese market comprises the most number of recalls with around 140,000 units, followed by Mexico with 100,000 units and Europe with 80,000 units. The recall applies to both Toyota and Lexus models.

In Japan, the recall applies to 45,316 units of the previous IS series (five models) that were produced between September 15, 2005 and December 28, 2011.

Moreover, Toyota has already announced that it will be recalling an additional 1,584,000 vehicles in the US. The recall applies to the 2009-2011 Corolla, 2006-2011 Vitz, 2007-2011 Lexus ES, and the 2006-2011 Lexus IS.

With the latest addition of 490,000 units, a total of 2,070,000 units will be recalled around the world.
