On May 23, Toyota Motor Sales USA announced that it was recalling additional cars over the Takata airbag inflator problems.
The new recall is due to a revision agreement regarding the airbags on the US market between the US National High Traffic Safety Administration and Takata’s US subsidiary.
The agreement includes all cars that were until not included in the recall which use front seat airbag inflators that do not contain the drying agent that uses stabilized ammonium nitrate.
Toyota announced that it would carry out the additional recalls in accordance with this agreement. The recall has added about 1,584,000 cars to the recall.
The models being added to the recall include 2009-2011 Corollas, 2006-2011 Vitz’s, 2007-2011 Lexus ES’s, and 2006-2011 Lexus IS’s.
