Toyota Motor Sales USA has released its April new car sales figures. Total sales for the month were 211,125 units. This represents 3.8% year-on-year growth and marks the first month of growth in 2 months.
Toyota’s best-selling passenger car the Camry sold 34,039 units. This is down 0.1% from the previous April and marks the 3rd month of decline. Corolla sales were up 0.4% at 32,111 units, marking the first growth in 2 months. The Prius was down 21.7% at 11,925 units, marking the 4th consecutive month of decline.
SUV, pickup and minivan sales hit a new record for April. The flagship RAV4 sold a record-setting 30,152 units. This is up 31.6% from the previous year and marks the 8th consecutive month of growth. The Highlander mid-sized SUV was up 9.3% at 15,037 units, marking the 5th month of growth. The Tundra full-sized pickup saw a 4% decrease in sales at 10,259 units, marking the 4th month of decline. The newly introduced Tacoma was up 15.6% at 18,106 units, marking the 7th month of growth.
For the Lexus brand, NX sales were up 11.5% at 3,815 units. The new RC coupe saw a 33.7% decline at 813 units, marking the 4th month of decline. Sales of the new RX were up 28.7% at 8,767 units, marking the 4th month of gains. IS sales were down 33.8% at 2,654 units, marking the 12th straight month of decline. GS sales were 1,001 units, which was 41.5% up from last April and marks the 3rd month of decline. The CT was down 50.7% with 577 sales, marking the 7th month of decline. The LX luxury SUV saw 63.7% year-on-year growth with 442 units sold.
Toyota’s 2015 US new car sales showed 5.3% year-on-year growth at 2,499,313 units. Sales for the period of January to April 2016 were up 0.2% at 780,204 units. Toyota Motor Sales USA president Bill Fay said, “The Toyota brand’s light trucks have broken sales records for 6 straight months.”
