On May 3, Subaru of America published its April new car sales. Total sales were 50,380 units, setting a new record for April. This represents 6.6% growth and marks the 53rd consecutive month of growth.
The Outback led the high sales with a record-setting 14,294 units. This is 14% year-on-year growth and marks the 3rd month of growth. The Legacy sedan (Legacy B4 in Japan) was up 6% with 5,591 units, marking the first growth in 2 months.
The new Forrester, which was released in 2013, sold 14,490 units. This marks 3.7% growth and the first month of growth in 2 months. Forrester sales have exceeded 10,000 units for 33 straight months.
The Crosstrek, which was released in September 2012, also hit a new record for April with 7,607 units. This represents 9.7% growth and marks the first month of growth in 4 months.
The WRX series including the WRX STI sold 3,096 units. This represents 14.1% year-on-year growth and marks the 3rd month of growth. On the other hand, the Impreza (not including the WRX) sold 4,836 units, which marks a decline of 8.9% and marks the 4th consecutive month of decline.
Subaru’s 2015 US new car sales set a new record at 582,675 units. This represents 13.4% year-on-year growth and marks the 7th straight year of growth. For the period of January to April 2016, sales were up 2.4% at 182,777 units. Subaru of America COO Thomas J. Doll said, “Through the outstanding efforts of our retailers, our franchise was able to report its best April ever.”
