Suzuki’s India subsidiary Maruti Suzuki, which holds the top share of the India new car market, revealed its India new car sales figures for April on May 1. Total sales including exports were 126,569 units. This represents 13.3% year-over-year growth and marks the 2nd straight month of growth.
Domestic sales were up 16.2% at 117,045 units, marking the 24th consecutive month of growth. Exports were 9,524, which represents a 13.7% decline and marks the first month in two months of decline.
Sales for flagship A segment, which includes the Alto, Wagon R, Celerio, Swift, Ritz (Splash in Japan), Dzire and Bareno were 86,481 units. This represents 2.7% growth and marks the 2nd month of growth.
Sales of Omni and Eeco vans were 14,520 units. This was 20.3% up from last year and marks the 7th month of growth. Meanwhile, sales in the utility vehicle segment, which includes SUVs and MPVs, were particularly favorable. April utility vehicle sales, including the Ertiga compact MPV and newly developed S Cross, were 16,044 units. This is 3.6 times the previous April’s sales and marks the 12th month of growth. The high sales are due to the introduction of the new Vitara Bretz SUV.
Maruti Suzuki’s new car sales for the fiscal year 2015 (April 2015 to March 2016) including exports set a new record at 1,429,248 units. This represents 10.6% growth and marks the 2nd year of growth.
