On April 26, Toyota Motor Corporation announced its production, domestic sales, and export results for the 2015 fiscal year (April 2015 to March 2016). According to these results, Toyota’s global production (including Daihatsu and Hino) fell 0.7% from the previous year to around 10,094,000 units.
Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Group’s global sales for fiscal 2015 were around 9,950,000 units. Toyota sales exceeded Volkswagen’s by nearly 140,000 units as it ranked in atop global sales for the first time in two years.
The Volkswagen Group’s global sales for fiscal 2015 were a 2.3% drop from the previous year. This was due mostly to the gas emissions scandal revealed last September in the US, which has impacted Volkswagen’s performance worldwide.
Moreover, this was the third year in a row that Toyota has surpassed the 10 million-unit mark in global sales.
