Subaru US car sales up 9.4% in March, setting new record at 490,000 units

On April 1, Subaru of North America published the company’s new car sales. Total sales set a new record for March at 49,285 units. This is a 0.4% increase over the previous year’s March and marks the 52nd straight month of increase.

What made all the difference was the Outback. It set a new record for March with a total of 14,111 units. This is a 12.9% increase over the previous year’s March and marks the 2nd month of increase. The sedan version of the Legacy saw a 9.7% increase at 5,551 units.

The Forester, which underwent a model change in 2013, sold a total of 12,239 units. This is a 4.6% year-over-year decrease and marks the first minus in 4 months. The Forester’s sales have been over 10,000 units for the last 31 months.

The Crosstrek, which was released in September 2012, sold a total of 6,973 units. This is a 2.6% decrease and marks the 3rd straight month of decline.

The WRX series, which includes the WRX STI, sold 2,737 units in March. This is a 10.8% increase over the previous year and marks the 2nd month of increase. The Impreza (not including the WRX) sold 35,193 units. This is a 3.2% decrease and marks the 3rd month of decrease.

In 2015, Subaru set a new record for US new car sales at 582,675 units. This is a 13.4% increase and marks the 7th straight month if increase. Subaru of America COO Thomas J. Doll said, “The debut of the new Impreza at the New York International Auto Show played a part in setting a new record for March.”
