On March 2, Toyota issued a recall of three models including the Lexus SC430 in Japan and the US over a defect in the Takata airbag inflators. The recall has now spread to Canada as well.
This was revealed by Toyota Canada, which announced that the company is recalling 33,000 cars over the same defect.
This recall is over the passenger side’s dual-stage airbag inflators. When the airbag is deployed, there’s a risk that the inflator could explode, sending shards of metal into the passenger compartment.
The recall applies to the 2008-2010 Lexus SC430, 2008 Corolla and 2008 Corolla Matrix in Canada. It applies to a total of 33,264 cars.
Toyota Canada is contacting the owners of the affected models. Inflators and airbags are going to be exchanged at dealerships.
