Mazda issued a recall on February 25 for the Bongo Friendee and Ford Freda over a power switch defect. The recall applies to 62,399 models built from April 19, 1995, to May 7, 2002.
There is a problem with the construction on the inside of the driver’s side power window switch. If a great deal of water enters the switch interior, it can cause electrical problems with the circuit board. This can cause the generation of excessive heat and erode the parts, or in a worst case scenario, could lead to fire.
All power window switches for affected cars are being replaced with new parts.
There have been 27 reports of the defect. There has been one case of fire. The defect was detected in the marketplace and from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
