Mazda Bongo (2007)

About 360,000 units of Mazda Bongo & Mitsubishi Delica being recalled for defective Takata airbags

On February 19, Mazda and Mitsubishi reported to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism about the recall (for collection and free repair) of Bongo and Delica units due to the defective inflators of Takata airbags.

The recall covers 208,037 units from six models, namely the Mazda Bongo, the Bongo Brawny, the Atenza, the Nissan Bonnet, and the Mitsubishi Delica, which were manufactured between April 3, 2006 and December 27, 2014. Mitsubishi recalled 152,678 units of the Delica and the Pajero, which were manufactured between August 23, 2006 and July 31, 2014. A total of 360,715 units from the abovementioned automakers.

Regarding the special airbag inflators (inflating equipment) for driving, there has been damage in their containers due to the inflator’s internal pressure when the airbags were developed, but the cause of this happening has not yet been made clear. Therefore, the inflators will be replaced for safety measures.

At this stage, the replacement parts have been prepared, so the preventive measures will start from the models produced in the earlier years. They will conduct an investigation for safety measures.

There have been no reports about defects or accidents concerning this issue. The issue was detected and reported by the manufacturer.
