On February 9, Toyota Motor Sales USA (TMS) announced that it has conducted a recall for the Scion FR-S (the Toyota 86 in Japan).
This recall pertains to an issue with its key interlock. According to TMS, due to the connectors not being connected on automatic transmission models prior to delivery, the key could be removed even when the automatic gearshift is not in ‘Park’ position.
As a result, it does not comply with federal motor vehicle regulations. It could increase the possibility of the vehicle to roll away and cause an accident.
The recall applies to approximately 26,000 units of 2013-2016 Scion FR-S models. TMS stated that it will contact the owners of these vehicles and conduct proper operations with the connectors.
