Toyota making Daihatsu a wholly owned unit will have an effect on their sales and technology, says Suzuki Managing Director Nagao

At a financial results press conference held in Tokyo on February 8, Suzuki Director and Managing Officer Masahiko Nagao commented regarding Toyota making Daihatsu a wholly-owned unit to strengthen their business in the compact car industry: “This is a serious matter. It will have an effect on their sales and technology.”

Managing Director Nagao stated, “We have to brace ourselves for goods and technology strategies, together with the increasing of sales. There is no sufficient analysis yet, but Toyota and Daihatsu’s tie-up includes strategies for compact cars; hence, we need to strengthen our product competitiveness and sales capabilities in the field of kei cars and regular passenger cars.”

He commented regarding the news published on January 27, “We have not entered into a tie-up discussion with Toyota.” He emphasized, “The tie-up is not true, and we are not considering to have one with them as well.”
