WCOTY names five finalists for 2016 World Design of the Year including two Mazdas

On January 26, the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) announced its five finalists for the 2016 World Car Design of the Year.

The World Car Design of the Year is one of the award categories for the WCOTY. The winner will be selected from a list of new models that debuted between fall 2014 and fall 2015 and be determined on the best design.

To qualify, each car must still be sold at the end of May 2016 in at least one market. The winner will be voted on by a group of 74 journalists from 23 different countries as well as five design experts.

The five finalists for the 2016 World Car Design of the Year are as follows.

Cadillac CT6
Mazda CX-3
Mazda MX-5
Jaguar XE
Land Rover Discovery

Amongst the finalists were a couple of Japanese cars, both Mazda models. The Mazda CX-3 and all-new MX-5 made the final cuts for both the World Car Design of the Year and the World Car of the Year.

The 2016 World Car Design of the Year will be announced on March 23 at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. The Citroen C4 Cactus was crowned as the previous winner.
