At a January 21 Tokyo press conference, Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki said that the company intends to widen its approach to developing its environmental and safety technology. He said the company wants to try many new things.
An important theme in Suzuki’s technological development for the future is its partnerships with other companies. Suzuki said the company intends to expand its scope as much as possible. “Looking back,” he said, “We expanded to meet technologies we deemed there was demand for.”
He said that if the company does not expand into other areas and try new things, it will be harder to cooperate with parts and car makers. He said, “In the case where there’s something we can’t do on our own, it’s good to move forward through cooperation.” Regarding automatic driving, he said, “It’s impossible to create a wholly automatic car all at once. The first step is to enhance our safety technology.”
