Toyota North American production hits 2 million for first time in 2015

On January 8, Toyota released its 2015 North American production figures. Total cars produced set a new record at 2,035,028. This is the first time production surpassed 2 million and it represents a year-over-year gain of 2.5%.

Toyota’s Indiana plant produced 375,647 units in 2015. This is a 7.5% increase over the previous year. The flagship Highlander SUV saw an 8.8% increase in production.

Its Canada plant produced 590,723 units. This is a year-over-year increase of 2%. A total of 242,311 RAV4’s were produced, an increase of 6.8% over the previous year. Production increased due to the favorable sales of SUVs.

Total sales for the Toyota, Lexus and Scion brand in the US in 2015 were 2,499,313, an increase of 5.3%.

Toyota North America CEO Jim Rents said, “Each vehicle that rolls off the line is an example of our commitment to safety, quality, value and above all our relentless focus to exceed customers’ expectations.”
