On January 1, 2016, Maruti Suzuki, Suzukiâ€™s Indian subsidiary and top shareholder of Indiaâ€™s passenger car market, announced its sales results for the Indian market for December 2015. Total unit sales including exports increased by 8.5% from the previous year to 119,149 units, producing a surplus for the ninth straight month.
The 119,149 units of total sales consist of 111,333 units for Indiaâ€™s domestic market. This result was a 13.5% increase year on year and a surplus for the 20th month in a row. Exports dropped 33.1% to 7,816 units for the first deficit in three months.
The leading A segment including the Alto, Wagon R, Celerio, Swift, Ritz (the Splash, in Japan), and Desire recorded an 11.6% increase to 91,043 units for a ninth consecutive surplus.
Sales of the van segment including the Omni and Eeco grew by 3.3% to 11,122 units, resulting in a surplus for the third straight month. The utility vehicle segment, which includes SUVs and MPVs, such as the Ertiga compact minivan and the newly released S-Cross recorded a 58.8% rise to 9,168 units for the eighth surplus in a row.
Maruti Suzukiâ€™s new car sales (including exports) in fiscal 2014 (April 2014 to March 2015) grew 11.9% year on year to 1,292,415 units, surpassing its 1,271,005 units recorded in fiscal 2010.
