The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US revealed that a recall will be conducted on the Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback. The NHTSA was notified of the recall by Mitsubishi Motors North America.
This recall is due to an issue with its airbags. According to the NHTSA, in states that use road salt to melt snow, the melting snow may cause corrosion to the wire connector by soaking through the carpet by the driver’s seat. In case of a collision, it could delay the deployment of the airbag.
The recall applies to 25,185 units of 2014 and 2015 Mirage models produced between August 2013 and September 2015 and sold in the US.
Mitsubishi Motors North America will be contacting the owners of these vehicles. These vehicles will be inspected at their dealerships where the corroded connectors will be replaced and a waterproof sheet will be installed to prevent any future corrosion.
