On December 1, Toyota Motor Sales, USA announced its sales results of new cars for the month of November. Total sales amounted to 189,517 units, which was a 3.4% increase from a year ago and a surplus for the third consecutive month.
Amongst the Toyota brand of passenger cars, the updated 2015 version of the top-selling Camry sold 30,945 units. This was a 7.3% improvement year on year and a surplus for the third month in a row. The Corolla, which introduced a new model in 2013, fell 5.5% to 24,194 units for its first deficit in three months. The Prius also dropped 9.9% to 12,575 units resulting in its first deficit since July.
For Toyotaâ€™s light-truck series (SUVs, pickup trucks, and minivans), their leading RAV4 set a new record for the month of November with 27,368 units, resulting in a 29.7% increase and a surplus for the third consecutive month. Sales of their mid-size Highlander SUV fell 5.5% to 12,741 units for its first deficit in nine months. The heavy-duty Tundra pickup dropped 10.3% to 8,590 units falling below its results from the previous year for the fourth straight month. The newly released Tacoma achieved a 3.4% increase to 13,465 units for its second surplus in a row.
For the Lexus brand, the all-new NX recorded 3,284 units, while the new RC coupe increased by 45.7% year on year to 1,282 units. The RX sold 10,771 units, which was a 12.3% rise and the first surplus in two months. The IS dropped by 33.6% to 3,063 units for its seventh straight deficit. The GS recorded 2,174 units, up 18.4% year on year and its first surplus in two months. The CT fell 25.6% to 984 units for its second consecutive deficit. Their top-of-the-line SUV, the LX performed well recording a 20.5% improvement to 512 units.
Toyotaâ€™s sales for the US in 2014 amounted to 2,373,771 units, up 6.2% year on year. For January to November of 2015, sales have climbed 5.1% to 2,260,963 units. â€œThe Toyota brand achieved a double-digit increase in November thanks to the success of our light-truck series especially the RAV4,â€ said Bill Fay of Toyota Motor Sales, USA.
