Design chief Yasushi Nakamuta discusses Mazda design

Mazda holds Kodo exhibit in Tokyo Midtown

Mazda opened the “This is Mazda Design. CAR as ART” exhibit at a design event held in Tokyo Midtown on October 16.

The display exhibits the “Bike by KODO concept” racing truck that earned rave reviews at 2015 Milano Design Week in April, “Sofa by KODO concept” and various traditional Japanese crafts. The motif was Mazda’s Kodo design concept.

The traditional crafts on display were the Kodoki copperware by Gyokusendo and Shiraito lacquered box by Kinjo Ikkokusai. The CX-5 and MX-5 were also on display. The exhibit will be held until October 25.

Mazda’s Advance Design Studio’s director Yasushi Nakamuta said of the event, “What stands out about Mazda’s design is that we approach the automobile as a beautiful instrument. The artwork exhibited here is related to our car designs and we hope visitors can see that.”
