Mitsubishi has issued a recall for its Lancer Evolution sports model in the United States.
This was revealed by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, which announced that it had received the recall from Mitsubishi Motors North America.
The cause of the recall is a defect in the parking brake. According to the NHTSA, there’s a chance that the parking brake’s cable could interfere with the fuel tank. If the fuel tank were to rupture, gasoline could leak, raising the risk of fire.
The recall applies to a portion of the Lancer Evolution models built in 2014 and 2015. It applies to 1,497 models built from July to the beginning of September 2014 and sold in the United States.
Mitsubishi Motors North America is contacting owners of affected cars. The cars are undergoing inspection at dealerships and parking brake cables and fuel tanks are being exchanged.
