Nissan Qashqai becomes fastest vehicle to achieve 500,000 units in the UK

On September 10, Nissan Europe announced that its current Qashqai has become the fastest model to achieve 500,000 units of output in the UK.

The current Qashqai is its second-generation model and was sold as the “Dualis” in Japan. The Qashqai is currently unavailable within the Japanese market as the Dualis was combined into the all-new X-Trail.

The current model was developed to further strengthen its position as the leader of Europe’s compact crossover segment. The first Qashqai was unveiled in 2007 and became an overwhelming success producing over 2 million units. It became the best selling crossover for the European market.

Nissan began producing the current Qashqai at their Sunderland plant in the UK in January 2014. After a mere 21 months, it has reached the 500,000 unit production mark.

According to Nissan Europe, the Qashqai reaching the 500,000-unit milestone in 21 months is the fastest in UK automotive history, topping the Ford Cortina’s 34 months and the Austin/Morris 1100/1300’s 29 months.
