Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC), in partnership with the government of Canada and the province of Ontario, announced on July 31 that they will invest in their Canadian plants.
TMMC will invest in its Cambridge and Woodstock assembly plants.
Toyota will invest 421 million dollars. Meanwhile, the government of Ontario will give Toyota a maximum grant of 42.1 million dollars. This investment will create new jobs for 25 people. Furthermore, the jobs of approximately 8,000 workers currently employeed will also be retained.
The investment in the Woodstock plant will build a new stamping line. The aim is to double the production capacity and produce better high-quality parts.
Meanwhile, the investment in the Cambridge plant will be allocated to the improvement of the facilities and technology. This investment is a preparation for the production of the next generation of Lexus vehicles. According to Toyota, Toyota’s own welding technology will be introduced to these Lexus vehicles, which will be done for the first time in an overseas Toyota plant.
