Toyota announced that on July 23 it celebrated 50 years since its expansion to the UK.
Toyota first launched operations in the UK in 1965. In this year, it displayed four compact cars including the Corona at the British International Motor Show.
The next year, 1966, it introduced the Corolla into the UK market. By 1980, its sales had reached 200,000, putting it at the top of the UK market.
In 1992, Toyota began building cars and engines in the UK. It began producing the Auris Hybrid in 2010. The Auris Hybrid was its first hybrid to be produced locally.
The total number of cars sold in the UK over the last 50 years for Toyota has reached about 3,000,000. Toyota Motors UK’s Tony Walker says, “All the work we have done so far has created a solid foundation for the future.”
