On July 9, Honda Motor Company reported a recall to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for defective inflators on its Takata airbags.
This recall applies to a total of 16 models including the Fit, Zest, Zest Spark, Stream, Insight, Insight Exclusive, STEPWGN, STEPWGN Spada, Airwave, Crossroad, CR-V, Fit Shuttle, Mobilio Spike, Mobilio, That’s, and Partner. Moreover, Honda Thailand has also declared the same recall for their Fit Aria. A total of 1,630,479 vehicles produced between January 8, 2007 and December 28, 2011 are now subject for recall.
After investigating a collection of airbags, Honda confirmed that the density of the gas propellant in the inflators of their special SRS airbags (driver’s side) has declined. Although the cause of this defect has not been identified, Honda will replace these inflators with new ones, as the airbags may not deploy properly when necessary.
For vehicles that apply to this recall as of May 14, 2015, Honda will be replacing the SRS airbag inflators starting with older models.
