On June 30, Mazda North American Operations announced the arrival of the all-new MX-5 in the US.
The new MX-5 for the US market features a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine, and not the 1.5-liter system equipped on the Japanese model.
The 1.5-liter 4-cylinder SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine on the Japanese Roadster offers 131ps of maximum output and 15.3kgm of maximum torque. On the other hand, the MX-5 for the US offers even more power with 155hp of maximum output and 20.5kgm of maximum torque.
The Mazda MX-5 comes available in four grades including the Sport, Club, Grand Touring, and the limited Launch Edition. Base price for the Sport grade is 24,915 USD (approx. 3,070,000 yen).
On June 30, the first shipment of the new MX-5s arrived in the US. Most of this fleet consisted of the Launch Edition decorated in Soul Red exterior. Mazda said, â€œWeâ€™ve welcomed the arrival of the new MX-5. They will be delivered to dealerships within the next several weeks.â€
