Mazda’s recall on RX-8 for defective airbags expands to the US

Mazda’s recall of the RX-8 in Japan conducted on June 4 for defective Takata airbags has expanded to the US as well.

This recall is due to an issue with the inflator of its Takata airbags on the driver’s side. In Japan, the recall applies to 32,784 models of the RX-8 produced between February 14, 2003 and February 16, 2008.

On June 4, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that they have been notified of this recall by Mazda North American Operations. Same as in Japan, this recall in the US market is due to a defective inflator on the driver’s side airbag.

In the US, the recall applies to 2004 – 2008 models of the RX-8. Mazda will be notifying the owners of these vehicles and the airbags will be replaced at their dealerships if necessary.
